- daycare for employee children
Nuremberg’s family-friendly company
Work and family compatibility
“A clearer focus on family and children is needed in the working world,” announced German Minister for Family Affairs Dr. Ursula von der Leyen at the opening ceremony of SEMIKRON’s daycare centre on 27th June 2007. Almost 500 guests joined in the festivities under the marquee beside the daycare centre Mikro. The idea to set up a daycare centre for SEMIKRON children came from Bettina Heidenreich-Martin, granddaughter of the company’s founding father and shareholder in the family business.
Mikro has 74 places for children of employees from SEMIKRON and other firms operating in the proximity, from the age of 1 year to school age. Mikro is open from Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers flexible childcare hours. The centre is also opened during school holidays and even offers vacation care for brothers and sisters. The architecture of the daycare centre is based on a unique concept: various different educational units arranged around a large, clear inner courtyard (piazza). Each of the facility’s units is based on a different educational area, for example nature/environment, science/experiments, numbers/maths, media, language, music, movement and creativity.
