Katharina Stich, student at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), is the first winner of the SEMIKRON Bachelor Women Award. SEMIKRON awards also go to outstanding electrical engineering and materials science students.

The SEMIKRON Bachelor Women Award was presented for the first time at this year’s Day of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology (“EEI Day”) at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). The lucky award winner, student Katharina Stich, received the prize in recognition of the excellent mark awarded for her BA dissertation. Professor Uwe Scheuermann, Simulation & Analysis Director at SEMIKRON, and Anja Oberndörfer, Head of Training at SEMIKRON, handed over the award during a virtual ceremony held on 16 July 2021. At a later meeting in person at SEMIKRON’s head office in Nuremberg, the award winner was presented with the award certificate and a cheque for 750 euros. Bernd Enser, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at SEMIKRON, congratulated Ms. Stich on the award while Ms. Oberndörfer spoke of the importance of promoting young women who are on MINT study programmes. SEMIKRON will continue to support Ms. Stich as part of a mentoring programme where, among other things, she will have the opportunity to experience first-hand what a day in the life of a female engineer is like.

Another highlight on the EEI Day was the presentation of the SEMIKRON Student Award, which went to eleven students in recognition of their outstanding results. This year’s awards went to students of the FAU’s Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology (EEI) for the 13th time and students of the Department of Materials Science for the 11th time. Once again, Clemens Vennebusch, development engineer at SEMIKRON and former recipient of the award, presented the material science awards. In addition to a cheque for 500 euros each, the award winners also have the opportunity to visit SEMIKRON’s head office in Nuremberg.

The SEMIKRON awards underline the importance the company places on qualified students and graduates of materials science and EEI subjects. SEMIKRON, a leading manufacturer of power electronic components worldwide, sees these annual awards as a long-term investment. SEMIKRON has enjoyed a successful collaborative partnership with the FAU for many years now.
